New solar programs are actually better than the expired tax credit

Eligible NY homeowners may now reduce the upfront cost of solar through a new program without waiting for tax season or depending on federal tax liability.

Enter your zip code and Power Solutions will compare three paths side by side: continue purchasing all your electricity from the utility, own your solar system, or use the New Solar Program. You will see the estimated costs, savings, incentives, and ownership terms before making a decision.

Wait — Didn’t the Solar Tax Credit Go Away?

For homeowners who buy a system with cash or a loan, yes — federal funding for the residential solar tax credit (Section 25D) ended in December 2025.

But there’s another door. The Participate Energy Program uses the federal commercial Investment Tax Credit (Section 48E). Participate Energy owns the system and claims that credit, then passes the 30% savings directly to you as a lower cost. You get the discount without the tax filing, the credit check, or a lien on your home.

Two Simple Ways to Put Solar on Your Roof

Path A — Participate Prepaid Program (most popular now)

One-time payment covering about 70% of the lease value — the 30% commercial tax credit covers the rest. Participate Energy owns and maintains the system; you get the lower bills.

  • No credit check, no lien
  • Transferable if you move
  • Buy the system outright after year 6 or at end of term
  • Optional third-party financing for the prepayment

Path B — Own It From Day One ($0-Down Financing)

Rather own your system outright? We still offer $0-down purchase financing. You own it from day one and may qualify for New York State solar incentives.

Note: Purchased systems no longer qualify for the federal 30% credit — Participate is the path that preserves it.
